Swing Again is a Croatian jazz octet based in Zagreb. The ensemble has horns section of two trumpets, tenor saxophone and trombone accompanied by standard rhythm section. Also, there are a couple of guest singers regularly performing with the band and the most frequent are Maja Ištvanić and Adalbert Turner Juci. Swing Again plays jazz standards, some popular music and original jazz compositions. The Piece, composition for alto saxophone and piano is finished. I drafted this one a long time ago, somewhere in 2010, and it was sitting unfinished until recently. This is a short composition, lasting only about two minutes, and is quite simple formally. Partly it is influenced by John Coltrane harmony, but it is intended to be approached in a classical style by legit players. This piece would be a nice addition to any classical saxophone player’s repertoire. Continue reading

Croatian Army Big Band performs Dilema, composition by Miljenko Prohaska at jazz festival Proljetna revija jazza in April, 1998 at Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, Zagreb.
Miljenko Prohaska was a famous Croatian composer/arranger and bandleader. He was longtime leader and artistic director of Radio Zagreb Dance Orchestra (the present-day Croatian Radiotelevision Jazz Orchestra). In this particular occasion the army big band had bigger rendition, called “Sympho” Big Band, with additional brass and woodwinds instruments. Continue reading
