Developing a Personal Saxophone Sound by Dave Liebman

Developing a Personal Saxophone Sound by Dave Liebman

by Dave Liebman is the book which changed my life regarding saxophone playing, or I could easily say it saved my career as a saxophone player.

I got this book in December 1996 and started reading thoroughly sentence by sentence, chapter by chapter. At that time I already had a degree in classical saxophone from the Zagreb Music Academy and played professionally for four years in the Croatian Army Wind Orchestra, Big Band and in some jazz combos and pop bands. Octave Key Mod for Yamaha 61 and 62 Saxophone

This is a simple tutorial (octave key modification) how to modify Yamaha 61/62 (it might work on other models 21, 25…)  alto or tenor saxophone octave key mechanism to work with Yamaha custom necks. The modification is quite stable, but could be easily removed/reversed into the original state. Continue reading

Jerry Bergonzi - Saxophone Mastery

Saxophone Mastery by Jerry Bergonzi – Review

Jerry studied saxophone at Berklee College of Music with Joe Viola and he took a few lessons with Joe Allard, so I assume his approach is the best of both worlds. He explains basically all the things about saxophone playing from the sound production, embouchure, tonguing, vibrato, intonation, finger/hand placement to alternate fingerings, multiphonics, altissimo and overtones, with simple words and camera close up to his face and hands, so it is clearly seen what he is doing.
